The Invention of the Telephone - 659 Words

Alexander Graham Bell born March 3, 1847 born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. His main interests were Science, especially Biology, which is the study of life and all living organisms. Both his mother and soon to be wife were deaf which sort of motivated Bell towards creating the telephone which involved hearing which they could not do. Bell was an only child that’s mother was deaf so he was mostly raised by his father Professor Alexander Melville Bell. At 15 due to bad grades at his high school, Royal High School Edinburgh, he moved to London at his grandfather’s house, and for high school he went to Western House Academy. He married Mabel Gardiner Hubbard (1877-1922) who was the daughter of Gardiner Greene Hubbard the first president of Bell Telephone Company! She was deaf as well as Bell’s mother which may have interested Bell in making the telephone. Both his mother and wife were deaf and I think that is what influenced Bell to create the telephone. Maybe he thought â€Å"If I could create a machine that could send messages from far distances maybe there’s a way to restore hearing back to deaf people†. Both and his father studied the physiology of speech to try and help his mother speak in a different way such as Sign Language which we have now or even British two-handed manual alphabet which was very similar to Sign Language but less advanced.
